Jun 21, 2010  Windows XP Service Pack 2 is a commercial trial software app filed under components and made available by Microsoft for Windows. The review for Windows XP Service Pack 2 has not been completed yet, but it was tested by an editor here on a PC. Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) is a cumulative service pack that includes the latest updates and provides enhancements to security and stability. This service pack is available for Windows XP Professional, x64 Edition.

you do not need to install SP1 first and you only need to install this if your re-installation was not already SP1 or higher.

Here is the link for SP3

you can go straight for this installation if you already have any service pack installed.

These are downloadable installers so obviously you will need to download at an alternate PC and save on a USB stick (for example) or other transferrable medium. The links should take you straight to a download prompt. If you see anything from Microsoft advising that the downloads are for networks or professionals ignore it.

This alone will not fix your graphics issues. You will need to get drivers for your graphics card from the manufacturer's website. If you want further help let us know more detail about your Dell system (service tag and/or range/model).

Graphics drivers are probably not the only drivers you are missing. Install Intel chipset drivers before any other device drivers. Go to the Dell support website and enter your service tag to get a list of drivers

you can download them to the same transferrable medium that you use for the service pack(s).

You should have received a Dell CD with all the drivers for your system on it, but, in my experience, many people 'lose' this.

The links to XP service pack 2 and service pack 3 seem to have been pulled as of a few days ago. I don't know if this is temporary or permanent.

If the links in the instructions below do not work, go to http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx where they are still be available (as of 1520 EST 8 Feb 2016).

Use Internet Explorer and search for XP Service Pack. You want:

All of the Windows XP updates released prior to April 8, 2014, are available through Windows Update -- once service pack 3 has been installed (Windows Update will not work for XP pre-sp3).

Service Pack 3 can only be installed AFTER you have installed service pack 1, service pack 1a, OR service pack 2.
